DURHAM – As rivals Duke and North Carolina met on the women's soccer field on Sunday in a top-25 battle at Koskinen Stadium, the two squads also celebrated the Team IMPACT program and their matches – Perry and Julia. Â
The programs held a pregame tailgate with all of Duke's Team Impact pairings – Perry (Women's Soccer), Creed (Football), Harper (Softball), Robbie (Swimming & Diving), Max (Men's Golf), Charlie (Track & Field), Aaron (Men's Tennis), Ashlyn (Rowing), Cambria (Women's Basketball) and Julia (UNC Women's Soccer). Â
Both Perry and Julia were a part of the pregame coin toss and all of the Team IMPACT teammates threw out t-shirts at halftime for the fans. Â
Duke works closely with Team IMPACT, which is a nonprofit organization that matches children facing serious illness and disability with college sports teams. In Team IMPACT's 11-year history, Duke has had 18 all-time matches.
When it was all said and done, the two teams finished in a 1-1 draw as Duke sophomore
Kat Rader finished a header with one minute remaining for the equalizer. More importantly, both programs came together as part of a great cause. Â
