DURHAM – The Duke men's soccer team has three players –
Forster Ajago,
Kamran Acito and
Nick Pariano – inside the top 50 of TopDrawerSoccer's Midseason Top-100 Players to Watch. The Blue Devils are one of just two ACC schools with three players inside the top 50, joined by Notre Dame.
Ajago, ranked 28th nationally by TopDrawerSoccer, currently leads the ACC in total goals (11), goals per game (.92), points (22) and points per game (1.83). He has scored six goals across Duke's last six matches and his 11 goals are tied for fifth-most in the country. The graduate student joined the Blue Devils this season after most recently playing for Dayton, where he tallied 13 total goals across two seasons. A native of Navrongo, Ghana, Ajago has been named ACC Co-Offensive Player of the Week twice in 2023, on Aug. 29 and Oct. 17.
Acito comes in at No. 43 in the rankings, having continued the form that earned the defender ACC Freshman of the Year in 2022. After starting all 19 of the Blue Devils' matches last season, Acito has continued to be a steady presence for Duke, starting in each of the first 12 contests of 2023. An anchor of Duke's defensive line, Acito has played 1,040 of 1,080 available minutes, including going the full 90 in all but three matches.
Pariano rounds out Duke's representation in the national rankings, tabbed at No. 48 overall. A preseason All-ACC selection, the senior captain has turned in one of the best seasons of his career, with four goals and five assists, good for a total of 13 points – matching his career-best for points in a season, which he set in 2021 with three goals and seven assists. The Philadelphia, Pa., native tallied the first brace of his career in Duke's 5-3 victory over then-No. 7 Syracuse and picked up two assists in Duke's 6-0 win over Furman in late August. Stepping into more of an offensive midfielder role in 2023, Pariano's four goals so far in the 2023 campaign sets a new career-best in a season by the senior.
No. 9 Duke returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 21, matching up with No. 23 Pittsburgh at Ambrose Urbanic Field in Pittsburgh, Pa. The Blue Devils (8-3-1, 3-3-0) and Panthers (6-4-3, 2-2-2) are separated by just one point in a highly-competitive ACC Coastal division. Fans can watch the match on ACC Network Extra.
