Barton, Carter Selected to Lombardi Award Midseason Watch List

DURHAM – Duke senior offensive lineman Graham Bartonand redshirt senior defensive tackle DeWayne Carterhave been named to the midseason watch list for the Lombardi Award, which is an honor presented annually to the college football offensive or defensive lineman who exemplifies the character and discipline of NFL Hall of Fame Coach Vince Lombardi in addition to outstanding performance and ability.
In 36 career games (35 starts), Barton has amassed 2,425 snaps. Through six games this season, the Brentwood, Tenn., native has created holes for a Blue Devils rushing attack that has gained 1,191 yards on the ground and 17 rushing scores. Duke's rushing attack is averaging 5.6 yards per carry and 198.50 yards per game. Barton has opened holes for the Blue Devils leading rusher, Jordan Waters, to scamper for 426 yards and nine touchdowns, including registering a rushing touchdown in six-straight games this season.
Carter returned in 2023 for his third consecutive season as Duke's starting defensive tackle. The three-time team captain has compiled 104 tackles, 23.5 tackles for loss, 11.0 sacks, seven caused fumbles, four fumble recoveries, nine pass breakups and 13 quarterback pressures in 45 career games. The Pickerington, Ohio, native has recorded two or more tackles in 24 career games, including a career-high nine tackles against Georgia Tech in 2022. Additionally, Carter moved into a tie for fourth all-time in program lore with seven caused fumbles and is just 0.5 sacks shy of becoming the 17th Duke player with 11.5 career sacks.
