Peroni and Gridley Break School Records, Blue Devils Fall in Final Dual-Meet

RESULTS

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Freshman Martina Peroni and Kaelyn Gridley both broke school records on Friday evening at the Koury Natatorium, as the No. NR/20 Blue Devils fell to No. RV/18 North Carolina. The Duke men (2-4, 0-3 ACC) fell to the Tar Heels 180-119, while the women (4-2, 1-2 ACC) fell 164-136.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Freshman swimmer Martina Peroni broke the pool and Duke record in the 200-buttefly, swimming a time of 1:53.76, previously set by Isa Paez at North Carolina (1:54.93) during the 2017-18 season.
In the 200-Medley Relay, the team of Emma Shuppert, Kaelyn Gridley, Aleyna Ozkan and McKenna Smith swam a time of 1:35.98, securing a NCAA A-Cut time and narrowly missing the school record (1:35.93).
Gridley followed up her strong performance on the relay team, breaking the school record set by Sarah Foley earlier this season (59.62) in the 100-breaststroke, by clocking a time of 59.12.
Foley (2:09.33), Gridley (2:09.61) and junior Catherine Belyakov (2:10.67) swept the 200-breaststroke.
Graduate student Cole Reznick secured his first NCAA B-Cut on Friday, swimming a time of 1:57.61 and winning the 200-breaststroke.
Senior Brad Sanford (20.04) and senior Coleman Kredich (20.34) placed first and third in the 50-freestyle.
The Blue Devils women swept the 200-IM late in the meet, as Foley (1:56.19), Belyakov (1:56.90) and Peroni (1:58.20) finished on the podium.
