DURHAM – With the New Year here, head coach
Kerstin Kimel and her staff announced the 2023 Duke women's lacrosse schedule.
The 16-game regular season spans from February 10 to April 20. The slate features four contests against opponents who were selected to the 2022 NCAA Championship field, including National Champion North Carolina and runner-up Boston College.
Kimel's squad will begin the 2023 season ranked No. 11 in the nation, as announced by the Nike/US Lacrosse Division I Women's Preseason Top 20. Kimel returns eight starters, including four graduate returners who will use their final year of eligibility granted by the NCAA due to COVID-19.
Katie DeSimone,
Olivia Carner,
Maddie Jenner,
Katie Keller,
Anna Callahan and
Eva Greco all tallied 30+ points a season ago and combined for 259 points on the offensive front. Duke also returns 2022 IWLCA All-Americans
Cubby Biscardi, Carner and Jenner.
Jenner also returns to the draw circle this spring as arguably the most dominant in the sport. Over the course of her career, she has amassed 604 total draws as the nation's NCAA active career leader in draw controls per game (9.29) and total draw controls (604). She broke Duke's all-time draw control record in 2022 and is currently second in NCAA history and is 42 shy of breaking the NCAA career record.
The Blue Devils are set for seven contests against squads either in the Nike/US Lacrosse Division I Women's Preseason Top 20 or having being considered in the top 20. The Tar Heels earned the top preseason ranking, followed by No. 3 Boston College, No. 6 Syracuse, No. 13 Virginia, No. 14 Notre Dame, Navy and Yale.
Koskinen Stadium will host eight games this spring, including ACC tilts against Syracuse (March 18), Virginia Tech (April 1) and North Carolina for the regular-season finale (April 20). Duke will open ACC road action Feb. 25 at Boston College before traveling for a neutral site against Notre Dame in Charlotte on March 4, at Clemson (March 11), at Pittsburgh (March 26), at Virginia (April 8) and at Louisville (April 15).
Duke will kick off the season with Navy at home Friday, Feb. 10 before hitting the road to take on Davidson (Feb. 15). The Blue Devils welcome Gardner-Webb (Feb. 19) before traveling to Chestnut Hill to open the ACC slate. Kimel's squad will return to Durham for a non-conference matchup against Liberty (Feb. 28) to close out February. Duke will face off against Yale, East Carolina and High Point amid conference play in March and April.
Duke will then turn its attention to the postseason, beginning with the ACC Tournament April 26-30. The tournament will be in Charlotte at American Legion Memorial Stadium.
