Duke Storms Back to Beat Pitt; Out-Rebounds Panthers 51-28
- Duke trailed Pitt by 11 at the half, 43-32 -- a deficit that grew to 12 in the second half -- before out-scoring Pitt, 45-26, after halftime and winning, 77-69, at Cameron Indoor on Wednesday.
- It marked Duke's largest halftime deficit overcome in a win since coming from 12 points down vs. Texas, 43-31, on Nov. 24, 2017, to win 85-78 at the PK80 in Portland.
- Duke yielded 43 points in the first half and held the Panthers to 26 in the second half, the 17-point difference from first to second half marking the team's best since a difference of 19 versus Virginia Tech (41-22) on Dec. 6, 2019.
- Duke held a 51-28 rebounding advantage, including a 24-9 edge in offensive rebounds. It marked the 13th time in 17 games that Duke out-rebounded an opponent, including the ninth time by double figures.
- Duke's +23 rebound margin was its highest in an ACC game since 47-24 (+23) vs. Florida State on Jan. 25, 2014.
- Duke recorded 20+ offensive rebounds for the fourth time this season – Duke hadn't had a game with more than 19 offensive in any game over the previous two seasons.

Filipowski Leads Duke with Monster Night; Freshmen Step Up Late Again
- Freshman Kyle Filipowski scored a career-high 28 points and tied a career-high with 15 rebounds for his seventh double-double this season and his first 20-10 double-double in the Pitt win.
- He is now just the third Duke freshmen all-time to have at least 28-15 in a game, joining Marvin Bagley III who did it four times in 2017-18 and Jabari Parker, who did it once in 2013-14.
- Flip is just the 12th player in Division-I to have at least 28-15 in a game this season (sixth power conference player) and the only freshman nationally to do so.
- He was 8-of-14 from the field and 11-of-13 at the line, becoming the first Blue Devil to make double-digit free throws in a game since Tre Jones (10-of-10) vs. North Carolina (March 7, 2020).
- During Duke's 15-0 run in the second half that flipped an eight-point Pitt lead (52-44) to a seven-point Duke advantage (59-52) -- all 15 points came from freshmen -- six from Filipowski, four from Mark Mitchell, three from Tyrese Proctor and two from Dereck Lively II.
- Proctor finished with 14 points (nine in the second half), was 5-of-5 at the free throw line and totaled five assists and no turnovers in 27 minutes.
- Mitchell scored 10 points (eight in the second half) and grabbed a career-high nine rebounds while going 6-of-6 at the free throw line.
- After Pitt closed the gap to 71-67 in game's final 1:49, Duke sealed it with Proctor's jumper and 2-of-2 free throws each from Proctor and Mitchell.
Duke's Depth is the Difference Maker
- Seven different players have led the team in scoring over the last 11 games -- after Kyle Filipowski was the leading scorer in five of the first six.
- Graduate Ryan Young's 20-point, 12-rebound effort off the bench led Duke vs. Florida State, while sophomore Jaylen Blakes' career-high 17 points off the bench at Wake Forest marked the first time in his career he led Duke in scoring. Freshman Dariq Whitehead's then-career-high 15 points came in his first career start on Dec. 10 vs. Maryland Eastern Shore -- a game in which Duke started five freshmen for the first time in program history.
- Thanks to Young (20 points) and Whitehead (career-high 16), Duke racked up 46 bench points in the FSU win, the team's most bench points in an ACC game since 2005. It also marked the third-highest percentage of bench points in an ACC game in school history (53.5 percent).
- The game at BC marked the Blue Devils' fifth different starting lineup this season. Blakes made his first career start against FSU and posted his second straight career-high 17-point effort, while Whitehead made his second career at BC and scored a career-high 18 points.
- Young pulled down 10 rebounds in the Pitt win, including seven on the offensive glass, while Dereck Lively II played 12 minutes vs. Pitt and finished with a plus-minus of 17, including +15 in the second half in six minutes of game time -- two points, two rebounds, one assist, one steal, one block.
- Head coach Jon Scheyer has utilized five different starting lineups this season as Duke has navigated injury issues, including playing three games (and each of the last two) without starting point guard Jeremy Roach with a lingering toe injury.
Duke is No. 4 in Offensive Rebounding Percentage; Top 25 in Overall Rebounding
- Duke has been among the nation's best rebounding teams this season, ranking fourth nationally in offensive rebounding percentage (39.0), third nationally in rebound margin (+9.4), ninth in offensive rebounds per game (13.7) and 25th in total rebounds per game (39.8) -- leads the ACC in each category.
- The Blue Devils have out-rebounded 13 of their first 17 opponents, including nine by double-digit margins. Duke opened the season with a double-digit rebound margin in each of the first six games -- the program record for longest such streak (at any point in a season). Duke had five-game streaks in 2017-18, 1998-98, 1962-63 and 1960-61.
- Since the start of the 2020-21 season, Duke is 44-5 when out-rebounding its opponent (12-1 this season).
- Offensive rebounding has been a significant strength, with Duke totaling 20+ on the offensive glass four times already -- the Blue Devils hadn't had more than 19 offensive boards in any game over each of the last two seasons.
- Individually, freshman Kyle Filipowski is 42nd nationally and fifth in the ACC in rebounds (8.9) and leads all power conference freshmen. Graduate Ryan Young is 34th nationally (third in the ACC) in offensive rebounds (3.2) and is ranked No. 8 nationally in KenPom in offensive rebound percentage (17.1).
The Young and the Accurate
- Young is 23-of-30 (.767) from the field in ACC play -- would lead the ACC by a wide margin (Miami's Norchad Omier leads the ACC at .614) but falls seven field goals of short of qualifying.
- He rated as the ACC's best offensive player both in league play (147.4) and overall (136.2) per KenPom.
- The Stewartsville, N.J.-native had a streak of 14 consecutive made field goals snapped at BC -- had made 13 straight entering the game.
- He is 31-of-38 (.816) at the free throw line this season and had a streak of 19 consecutive made free throws snapped at NC State.
- Not just an efficient scorer, he ranks third in the ACC (34th nationally) in offensive rebounds (3.2) and is eight in offensive rebound percentage (17.1).
- His 121 rebounds this season are 10 shy of his total from last year at Northwestern.
Duke's Three-Point Streak
- Duke has connected on at least one three-pointer in 1,170 straight games, the second-longest streak nationally.
- It has been more than 30 years since Duke was held without a three-point field goal -- Dec. 30, 1989, versus Hawai'i.
