DURHAM – The NFL Playoffs begin on Saturday with three former Duke lettermen in the hunt for the coveted Vince Lombardi Trophy.
Noah Gray (Kansas City Chiefs), Daniel Jones (New York Giants) and Chris Rumph II (Los Angeles Chargers) each helped their respective teams into the NFL postseason.
Gray and the Chiefs earned a bye for wild card weekend (Jan. 14-16) after helping Kansas City (14-3) capture the AFC West championship and the No. 1 seed in the conference. During the divisional round (Jan. 21 & 22), the Chiefs will host the lowest remaining seed on the AFC side.
Â
Rumph II will take the field Saturday with the No. 5 Chargers when they travel to face No. 4 Jacksonville. That contest is scheduled for 8:15 p.m., and will be aired live on NBC. The Chargers come into the contest with an 10-7 mark, while the Jaguars bring a 9-8 record into the game.
Finally on Sunday, Jones and the No. 6 Giants will travel to meet No. 3 Minnesota. The Giants went 9-7-1 during the regular season, while the Vikings posted a 13-4 ledger. Sunday's game is slated for 4:30 p.m., and will be broadcast live on Fox.
Â
Former Blue Devils Matt Daniels, Thaddeus Lewis, Jamison Crowder, Joe Giles-Harris, and Devery Hamilton also are part of NFL organizations in the playoff picture. Daniels is the special teams coordinator with the Minnesota Vikings, while Lewis is an assistant wide receivers coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Crowder (Injured Reserve) and Giles-Harris (Practice Squad) are current, non-participating players within the Buffalo Bills organization, while Hamilton is a member of the Giants practice squad.Â
