DURHAM – Duke kicked off the Mike Elko Era with a 30-0 victory over Temple at Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium.

The Blue Devils were stout on defense, holding the Owls to under 200 yards of total offense, including just 50 yards in the first half. The shutout marked Duke's first since 2015 when it blanked NC Central 55-0 at home. The last time the Blue Devils held an FBS opponent scoreless was in 1989 against North Carolina (W, 41-0) on the road and in 1978 against Wake Forest (W, 3-0) at home.

Junior Dorian Mausi and redshirt senior Shaka Heyward led the charge with six and five tackles, respectively. Graduate student Datrone Young and redshirt senior Ja'Mion Franklin chipped in with a fumble recovery, while graduate student Cam Dillon registered a forced fumble.

On offense, redshirt junior Jaylen Coleman and Sahmir Hagans earned their first career touchdowns, while Jordan Moore tallied his first career receiving score to help the Blue Devils' winning effort. Redshirt junior Charlie Ham added to Duke's final total with three field goals.

Sophomore quarterback Riley Leonard finished 24-of-30 passing for 328 yards with two touchdowns. In addition, the Fairhope, Ala., native scampered 64 yards on 11 attempts to lead the Blue Devils in rushing.

How It Happened

The Blue Devils scored on four of their five drives to open the game to create a 24-0 gap between the teams at halftime.
Duke continued its momentum in the second half, scoring field goals of 37- and 38-yards to increase its advantage to 30-0.
The Blue Devils then held on down the stretch to finish the game not allowing the Owls in the redzone for the shutout.

Notables

Leonard was the first Blue Devil to register 300-plus yards passing since Gunnar Holmberg did so against Kansas in 2021 with 328 yards.
He started the game 15-of-15 passing for 239 yards with two touchdowns.
Coleman finished second on the team in rushing with 43 yards on eight carries.
Leading the receiving corps was senior Jalon Calhoun with eight receptions for 90 yards.
He shifts to ninth all-time in career receptions and 14th all-time in career receiving yards.
During his first game at wide receiver, Moore compiled 77 yards on six receptions with one score.
Hagans added 54 yards on two receptions with a touchdown.
Junior Jaylen Stinson and sophomore Brandon Johnson chipped in with four tackles each.
Redshirt junior DeWayne Carter and Franklin combined to record Duke's lone sack.
Junior Aeneas Peebles tallied a game-high three quarterback pressures for his second career multi-pressure game.
Ham converted on three field goals of 29- , 37- and 39-yards.
Vincent Anthony Jr., Anthony Hinton, Andrew Jones, Nick Lampert, Nick Morris Jr., Brian Parker II, Chandler Rivers, and Gavin Spurrier all saw action in their first career games. Anthony Jr. made his first career start.
