DURHAM – The honors keep rolling in for Duke women's soccer sophomore
Michelle Cooper. On Wednesday, Cooper was named the United Soccer Coaches Division I Player of the Week.
A day earlier, Cooper was selected the TopDrawerSoccer and College Soccer News National Player of the Week, while also earning ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Cooper registered four goals and two assists for 10 points as fifth-ranked Duke defeated Boston College (3-0) and No. 22 NC State (6-0). On the road at NC State on Sunday, Cooper opened the scoring in the sixth minute with a blast from 30 yards, then added a second goal just 45 seconds into the second half to give the Blue Devils a 3-0 lead against the Wolfpack. She added two assists in the second half as well to give her a career-high six points. She took only three shots and scored two goals, including the game winner on Sunday.
A product of Clarkston, Mich., Cooper opened the week with two goals in a 3-0 victory over Boston College. It marked the fifth multi-goal performance of her short career and first in back-to-back contests. Cooper owns an ACC-best nine goals, five assists and an ACC-leading 23 points on the season. Her 2.56 points per game ranks fifth nationally.
The fourth-ranked Blue Devils are slated to host No. 2 Virginia on Friday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m., live on ACC Network Extra.
