Piper Hampsch was named the ACC Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week following her performances in a 2-0 weekend for the Blue Devils. This is Hampsch's second career weekly honor.
Hampsch, also voted this week's PNC Achievers Duke Student-Athlete of the Week, had an outstanding start to the 2022 season, making 11 saves in a pair of top-20 wins. She allowed just one goal in 157:38 of action and finished with a 0.38 goals against average and a .917 save percentage.

In the season opener against No. 8 Rutgers, Hampsch made six saves in 80 minutes of play. In the penalty stroke shootout, Hampsch made three saves to give Duke the 3-2 shootout win. The following afternoon she made five stops to record her first shutout of the season. Hampsch's 11 saves pushed her career total to 172 to rank 11th in Duke history.
The Blue Devils are off to a 2-0 start, garnering a pair of top-20 wins on opening weekend for the first time since 2009.

Duke field hockey is back in action this weekend, traveling to Newton, Mass. for the ACC/BIG 10 Cup. The Blue Devils square off against Northwestern Friday at 3 p.m., before taking on Maryland Sunday at 12 p.m.
