DURHAM – Duke head coach Mike Elko announced on Sunday morning sophomore Riley Leonardas the Blue Devils' starting quarterback to open the 2022 season.

"After a very intense quarterback battle this fall, we have decided to go with Riley Leonard as our starting quarterback," Elko said. "We are excited to see him lead our team this fall, and we also know that Jordan Moore will be an impact player for our offense in many roles as well."

A native of Fairhope, Ala., Leonard saw action in seven games during his rookie season, making one start against Virginia Tech. In 164 career snaps, he has completed 37-of-62 (.597) pass attempts for 381 yards with one touchdown and one interception while rushing 47 times for 173 yards (3.68) and two scores.

Other members of the quarterback group include freshman Henry Belin IV, graduated student Ty Lenhart, sophomore Jordan Moore and graduate student Gavin Spurrier.

Duke's 2022 season opener is Friday against Temple. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. at Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium and will be broadcast on ACC Network.
