DURHAM β The Duke field hockey team will open the 2022 season ranked 18th in the Penn Monto NFHCA Preseason top 25 poll released Tuesday afternoon. The top 25 is compiled by votes from each Division I program with an NFHCA member coach.
Reigning NCAA Champion Northwestern sits atop the poll with 1,107 points and 26 first-place votes, while North Carolina is a close second with 1,067 points. The Tar Heels garnered 14 first-place nods. Michigan, Maryland and Iowa round out the top five, respectively.

Hannah Miller look to lead the offense. Miller, recently named to the Preseason All-ACC squad, begins her fourth season as a starter with 44 career points and looking to become the 41st Blue Devil to reach the 50-point benchmark.
Overall, Duke returns 18 players from last year's squad and welcomes nine newcomers to the program. Six rookies will make their collegiate debuts and three others join the Blue Devils as transfer student-athletes.
Charlotte van Oirschot is the most veteran of the newcomers, enrolling at Duke in January 2022 after transferring from Louisville. She was an All-ACC second team pick with the Cardinals.
Kira Curland comes to Duke after leading Indiana in scoring as a freshman and
Raphaelle van de Walle is a graduate student transfer out of a university in The Netherlands.
Duke will face an immediate test in its season opener at No. 8 Rutgers Aug. 26 and against No. 16 Saint Joseph's Aug. 27. Overall, the Blue Devils are set to face 11 teams ranked in the preseason poll, including six of the top 10. All six ACC programs are ranked in the top 20.
First hit for the 2022 Duke field hockey season is Aug. 26 at 1 p.m., at Rutgers.
