DURHAM – Duke men's soccer junior
Peter Stroud has been named a United Soccer Coaches Player to Watch, as the organization released its list of midfielders on Friday.
Â
Stroud was one of 26 named to the list of the top midfielders in Division I, including four All-Americans. The list features United Soccer Coaches All-Americans and first or second team All-Region players from 2021, who are scheduled to return for the 2022 season.
Â
The Chester, N.J., native had a career year in 2021, culminating in being named a United Soccer Coaches Third Team All-American and the ACC Midfielder of the Year. Stroud tallied four goals and four assists for 12 points, ranking third on the team in total minutes played with 1,717.
Â
A team captain, Stroud made his offense count in the biggest moments, by scoring a game-tying goal in the regular season against eventual national champion Clemson, being named to the ACC's All-Tournament Team and scoring the game-winning goal in the 88th minute of the NCAA Second Round win over UCLA.
Â
Stroud and the Blue Devils are set to open exhibition play on Saturday at 6 p.m., by traveling to Columbia, S.C., for a preseason tilt with South Carolina. The game is the first of three exhibitions, with two more contests against High Point (Aug. 16 at 7 p.m.) and Longwood (Aug. 19 at 7 p.m.) set to occur in Koskinen Stadium.
