DURHAM – Duke softball alumna
Peyton St. George and current assistant coach
Sydney Romero have concluded their opening week with Athletes Unlimited Softball, with each set to continue play in week two of five.
In her professional softball debut, St. George made two appearances over the weekend, going 0-0 with a 3.32 ERA (6.1 IP). The Mechanicsville, Va., native struck out six batters and held opposing hitters to a .217 batting average.
Romero was also back in action, hitting .273 with two RBI and three runs scored. The newly hired assistant coach started all three games over the weekend.
The league also operates on a point system to determine individual player rankings. For each statistic registered, a specific number of points are given or taken away from each player's overall score. St. George tallied 186 points this past week while playing for Team Chidester. Romero notched 260 points on Team Zerkle.
The teams have been re-drafted for week two, with Romero taken in the second round by Team Harshman and St. George selected in the fifth round by Team Mulipola. The two Blue Devils will meet each other on Sunday in the weekend finale.
Both players will be back in action this weekend, Aug. 5-7, at the Parkway Bank Sports Complex in Rosemont, Ill. The full schedule for week two is below.
