DURHAM – Duke head football coach Mike Elko and the 2022 Blue Devils are scheduled to begin fall camp on Tuesday.
Elko, who took over the reins of the football program on December 10, 2021, will host his first official fall practice in preparation for Duke's 2022 season opener against Temple on Friday, Sept. 2.Â
Duke returns 47 letterwinners from 2021, including 13 starters and four All-ACC selections in defensive tackle DeWayne Carter, linebacker Shaka Heyward, offensive lineman Jacob Monkand kickoff return specialist Jaylen Stinson.
Carter has seen action in 26 career games, compiling 49 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, four caused fumbles, six quarterback pressures and three pass breakups. Just a season ago, he finished first in the ACC and tied for 11th in the nation in forced fumbles, while placing second on the team in both tackles for loss and sacks. Heyward led the team and ranked fifth in the ACC with 98 tackles in 2021. In his Blue Devil tenure, he has registered 246 tackles, 26.5 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, two interceptions, three fumble recoveries, one pass breakup, and 11 quarterback pressures in 39 career games. The Dacula, Ga., native heads into the upcoming season having tallied four-plus tackles in 28 straight contests.

Monk, a three-year starter along the offensive line, has played 2,411 snaps throughout 35 career games. Last season he created paths for running back MaÂtaeo Durant to rush for a program single-season record 1,241 yards. Monk also helped the offensive line finish sixth in the ACC in fewest sacks allowed with 27, while protecting an offense that accumulated 5,011 yards of total offense. In 23 career games, Stinson has returned 51 kickoffs for 1,173 yards (23.00) with two touchdowns. Just a year ago, he posted two kickoff returns for touchdowns versus Pittsburgh (86 yards) and Miami (94 yards) and is 58 kickoff return yards away from breaking into Duke's career top 10 list.
