DURHAM -- Duke Athletics finished the 2021-22 campaign ranked 21st in the Learfield IMG Directors' Cup Standings announced recently by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics.
Duke secured 849.50 total points to finish sixth among ACC schools, marking the 20th consecutive year that four or more ACC schools placed among the top 30 in the final rankings. The Blue Devils have finished in the top 30 all but twice in the 28 years since the Directors' Cup standings were first presented in 1993-94.
Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships, and a total of 16 Duke teams earned points, highlighted by men's basketball (83) and women's tennis (83) each reaching the national semifinals of their respective national championship tournaments. The other Blue Devil teams scoring points included women's soccer (73), men's soccer (64), fencing (60), women's swimming & diving (50), women's indoor track & field (53.5), men's indoor track & field (22.5), wrestling (24.5), women's golf (46), men's golf (28.5), women's lacrosse (53), rowing (42), softball (64), men's tennis (50) and women's outdoor track & field (52.5).
North Carolina finished sixth and was joined in the top 10 by Notre Dame, which placed eighth. Virginia (11th), Florida State (14th), NC State (17th) and Duke (21st) complete the ACC's top-25 contingent. Virginia Tech (33rd place), Louisville (34th), Wake Forest (45th) and Miami (50th) followed to give the ACC 10 institutions among the top 50.
The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Nineteen total teams can earn points for the final standings, four of which must be baseball, men's basketball, women's basketball and volleyball.
