GREENSBORO, N.C. – Redshirt junior defensive tackle DeWayne Carter, redshirt senior linebacker Shaka Heyward, and senior offensive lineman Jacob Monk will represent Duke at the 2022 ACC Football Kickoff, July 20-21 at the Westin Charlotte located in Charlotte, N.C.Â

The Atlantic Coast Conference announced Wednesday the 42 student-athletes who have been chosen by its 14 league schools to attend the main preseason event. Duke and the rest of the Coastal Division will hold its media availability at the kickoff on Thursday, July 21.

ACC Network will broadcast live from the ACC Football Kickoff. The two days of expansive coverage will begin at 9 a.m. on both Wednesday and Thursday and the 24/7 national network dedicated to ACC sports will provide the event's most robust television coverage to date.

Carter will vie for a starting defensive tackle position in 2022 after playing in 26 career games with 13 starts throughout his tenure. The Pickerington, Ohio, native has compiled 49 tackles, 10.5 tackle for loss, 5.5 sacks, four caused fumbles, six quarterback pressures and three pass breakups. Last season, Carter posted a career-high six tackles against Virginia Tech, and a career-best 2.0 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks against North Carolina. In addition, he notched a career-high two forced fumbles in a contest with Northwestern.

Heyward is charted as the starting linebacker for Duke after holding that position for the last two seasons. In 39 career games (29 starts), Heyward has compiled 246 tackles, 26.5 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, two interceptions, three fumble recoveries, one pass breakup, and 11 quarterback pressures. He has eight double-digit tackle games to his name, including a career-high 16 stops against North Carolina A&T in 2021. The Dacula, Ga., native has 27 games with five-plus tackles and has only failed to record two-plus tackle in eight contests. Heading into 2022, Heyward has tallied four-plus tackles in 28 straight contests.
Monk enters the upcoming season as the projected starting offensive guard for the Blue Devils. In 35 career games, all starts, he has played 2,411 snaps. In 2019, he became the first true freshman to start a season-opener along the offensive line since Bryan Morgan in 2007. He is one of two returning starters with 2,400-plus career snaps, joining Heyward who has 2,527.

The three Blue Devils will be joined at the event by head coach Mike Elko, who enters his first season at the helm of the Duke program.

Duke's 2022 season opener is slated for Friday, Sept. 2, when it welcomes Temple to Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
