DURHAM – Duke women's golf incoming freshman Andie Smith is set to host The Atlantic Cup on June 11-12 at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Fla.
The Atlantic Cup benefits Charity Water and the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) ACE Grant Program. The Atlantic Cup is a part of the AJGA's Leadership Links State Cup Series. These events provide incentives for junior golfers to fundraise and support both the golf community and communities worldwide.
Smith, a native of Hobe Sound, Fla., is a six-time winner on the AJGA and is the reigning 2021 Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) 4-1A State Champion. She owns 21 top-10, 15 top-five and 22 top-20 finishes on the AJGA since 2018.
"I am so excited to see how this year's Atlantic Cup will bring hope and prosperity to many more people worldwide," said Smith.
In 2021, the inaugural Atlantic Cup raised $70,000.
The AJGA's ACE Grant program provides financial assistance to junior golfers aspiring to earn college golf scholarships as well as Charity Water, which provides clean drinking water and basic sanitation to people in developing countries. Clean water keeps kids in school longer and brings hope, health, and longevity to their communities. The funds raised from the inaugural Atlantic Cup in 2021 allowed Charity Water to build two wells in Sierra Leone with hand pumps, bringing clean water to almost 400 people.
On Saturday, June 11 the golfers will feature a 9:30 a.m., 18-hole best ball and then at 3 p.m., a 9-hole alternate shot competition. Sunday, June 12 will feature 18-hole singles matches. A banquet for The Atlantic Cup will be held on Saturday evening.
By accepting the invitation to play in The Atlantic Cup, each golfer agrees to raise at least $1,000 for Charity Water and the AJGA's ACE Grant Program.
