DURHAM – Seven Duke football players were selected to the Athlon Sports 2022 preseason All-ACC team, the organization announced.

Defensive back Jaylen Stinson was named to the first team as a kickoff return specialist, while offensive lineman Graham Barton, defensive lineman DeWayne Carter and linebacker Shaka Heyward were tabbed to the third team. Wide receiver Jalon Calhoun, defensive lineman R.J. Oben and punter Porter Wilson garnered fourth team nods.
Stinson, an Opelika, Ala., native earned Honorable Mention All-ACC honors as a kick return specialist a season ago. He registered 34 returns for 818 yards with a 94- and 86-yard kickoff return for a touchdown against Miami and Pittsburgh, respectively. The junior led the ACC in kickoff returns and yards, while ranking second in the nation in both categories.

Barton, Duke's returning starter at left offensive tackle, saw action in all 12 games in 2021. He helped the offensive line finish sixth in the ACC in fewest sacks allowed with 27, while protecting an offense that accumulated 5,011 yards of total offense. The Brentwood, Tenn., native also created paths for teammate Mataeo Durant to rush for a program record 1,241 yards.

Carter, a 2021 Third Team All-ACC selection, registered 37 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, four caused fumbles, three pass breakups and six quarterback pressures in 12 games a year ago. His caused fumbles ranked first in the ACC and tied for 11th in the nation. The Pickerington, Ohio, product and redshirt junior earned three-plus tackles in eight contests, including a season-high six against Virginia Tech.

Redshirt senior Heyward led the team and ranked fifth in the ACC with 98 tackles last season. He chipped in a team-high 11.5 tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks, one interception, one pass breakup and five quarterback pressures. The Dacula, Ga., native also garnered three double-digit tackle performances and led or finished second on the team in tackles in 10-of-12 games.

Calhoun finished second on the team in 2021 with 56 receptions for 718 yards and a team-best three touchdowns. The Greenville, S.C., product earned four-plus receptions in 10 games, including a season-high seven against Louisville. The senior recorded two 100-plus yard receiving games in back-to-back outings against North Carolina and Georgia Tech.

Oben, a Montclair, N.J., native led the team with 5.0 sacks a year ago. He added 25 tackles, 7.0 tackles for loss, one interception, three forced fumÂbles and a team-high eight quarterback hurries. The redshirt junior booked a season-high five tackles on two occasions against Charlotte and Pittsburgh.

Wilson tallied 61 punts for 2,732 yards in 2021. His punting average (44.79) and punting yards (2,732) were third in the ACC and 24th and 23rd in the country, respectively. The Fairlawn, Ohio, product and redshirt junior pinned 22 punts inside the 20-yard line and boasted 17 punts of 50-plus yards.
Duke's 2022 season opener is slated for Friday, Sept. 2, when it welcomes Temple to Brooks Filed at Wallace Wade Stadium for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
