GREENSBORO, N.C. – Graduate student
Jameson Kavel has been named the 2022 ACC Softball Scholar Athlete of the Year, while eight have been tabbed to the All-ACC Academic Team, as the conference announced on Friday.
Kavel made waves in her final season in Durham, both on and off the field. The Duluth, Ga., was named an NFCA All-American for the first time as a member of the third team, hitting .379 with 17 home runs, 49 RBI, 15 stolen bases and 16 doubles, while starting all 55 games. The shortstop was one of just two players nationally to hold a batting average of .370 or higher, hit at least 15 home runs and steal 15 bases, joining Wichita State's Addison Barnard.
The 2022 season proved to be a record-breaking one for Kavel, who set Duke single season marks in runs scored, hits, doubles and home runs. For her efforts, Kavel was named a top-25 finalist for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award and earned All-ACC first team and All-Southeast Region second team honors.
Kavel was also honored for her significant academic prowess, after graduating from the Fuqua School of Business with a Master of Management Studies. Kavel became the first CoSIDA Academic All-American in program history. Now a graduate, Kavel will pursue her studies further in law school.
Along with Kavel, graduate students
Rachel Crabtree and
Peyton St. George, seniors
Deja Davis,
Kristina Foreman and
Caroline Jacobsen, junior
Kamryn Jackson and sophomore
Jala Wright were all named to the All-ACC Academic Team.
St. George was named to the team for a program-record fourth time, while Davis, Foreman and Kavel were selected for the third time. Crabtree was tabbed to the list for the second time, while Jackson, Jacobsen and Wright each earn their first All-ACC Academic selection.
In the program's first five seasons of existence, 11 players have earned 21 honors on the All-ACC Academic Team under head coach
Marissa Young.
