DURHAM – Duke softball earned a final 2022 ranking of No. 12, according to a release by
USA Today/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) on Tuesday.
The Blue Devils secured their highest final national ranking in school history, after competing in the program's first NCAA Super Regional last month.
In addition, Duke checked in at No. 12 in the
ESPN.com/USA Softball rankings, No. 13 for the
Softball America poll, and No. 14 for the
D1 Softball list.
It was a historic season for the Blue Devils program, as the team was led by two All-Americans in
Jameson Kavel and
Peyton St. George, while setting a program record of six named to the All-ACC team. Countless new single-season team highs were set in 2022, including batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, runs, hits, doubles, home runs, RBI, stolen bases, pitching strikeouts and fielding percentage.
Kavel gave the team its second consecutive year with a top-25 finalist for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award, while St. George became the first Blue Devil to be selected in a professional softball draft, as she prepares to join Athletes Unlimited in July.
Head coach
Marissa Young and her staff were also tabbed as the NFCA Southeast Region Staff of the Year for the second-straight season, as the team went 44-11 and 19-3 in ACC play.
