SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. – As the 2022 U.S. Women's Open gets set to kick off this week locally at Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club in Southern Pines, N.C., the Duke women's golf program will feature three golfers in the event – Celine Boutier, Brittany Lang and Leona Maguire.
The U.S. Women's Open will be contested June 2-5 with 156 golfers playing 72 holes.
Lang, the 2016 U.S. Women's Open Champion, will see action in her 18th straight U.S. Women's Open, which is currently the second-longest streak for the tournament behind Angela Stanford (23). Over her career, Lang owns 56 career top-10 finishes and has collected over $7,000,000 in earnings on the LPGA Tour.
Three years ago, Boutier, along with former Duke teammate Yu Liu, led the U.S. Women's Open in Charleston, S.C., before finishing tied for fifth overall at three-under-par, 281. Boutier owns five top-10 finishes on the season and ranks fourth on the LPGA money list for 2022 with $599,903 earnings. She has won two career events on the LPGA since 2019.
Maguire will see action in her fourth U.S. Women's Open this week. She has had an impressive run this past year with her first LPGA win this season at the LPGA Drive on Championship, while also leading the Europeans to a victory at the Solheim Cup in her second Olympic appearance with her home country of Ireland. She currently sits 22nd on the LPGA money list with $329,679 earnings on the season.
Former Blue Devil standouts
Gina Kim and Lindy Duncan are also alternates for the U.S. Women's Open in case any golfers have to withdraw their names from competition.
Duke is the only women's golf program to feature a winner on both the LPGA and Epson Tour in 2022. Maguire won the LPGA Drive on Championship in February and Kim won the Inova Mission Inn Resort and Club Championship on the Epson Tour this past weekend.
