LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Graduate students
Jameson Kavel and
Peyton St. George have earned NFCA All-America third team honors, as the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) revealed Wednesday.
Kavel and St. George become the second and third All-Americans in program history, joining
Deja Davis in 2021.
Kavel concludes her collegiate career with one of the strongest offensive seasons in program history. The Duluth, Ga., native hit .379 with 17 home runs, 49 RBI, 16 doubles and 15 stolen bases, while starting all 55 games. Kavel set Duke single-season records in hits (66), runs scored (59), home runs and doubles, on her way to NFCA All-Southeast Region second team and All-ACC first team honors.
The graduate student had several standout moments this season, including a record-setting three home run performance in win over James Madison on April 12, a 23-game on-base streak and the clinching two-run double to seal a run-rule win over Georgia to advance to the program's first NCAA Super Regional. Kavel leaves as the program's all-time leader in games played, games started, at bats, runs scored, hits, doubles, stolen bases and walks.
St. George becomes the first pitcher in program history to be named an All-American, following another historic campaign. The Mechanicsville, Va., native went 22-4 with a 2.07 ERA (155.2 IP), striking out 190 batters. St. George threw five solo shutouts and was a part of eight total, while tallying 14 complete games and five saves. St. George was named to the NFCA All-Southeast Region first team and All-ACC first team.
Headlined by a record-setting 15 strikeouts in a March 11 win over NC State, St. George took the ball in the circle for several big games, including her season-opening complete game shutout of No. 5 Oklahoma State, as well as NCAA Regional shutout wins over UMBC and Liberty. St. George leaves as the most decorated pitcher in program history, holding Duke's all-time records in starts, appearances, innings pitched, wins, saves, strikeouts, shutouts and complete games.
St. George will continue her softball career on the professional stage, joining Athletes Unlimited Softball after being selected in the 2022 Athletes Unlimited College Softball Draft.
