DURHAM – No. 14 Duke softball (27-5, 10-2 ACC) used four home runs to power past Boston College (14-16, 2-9 ACC) for a 10-0 win in five innings on Saturday afternoon at Duke Softball Stadium.
Peyton St. George (15-2) added another win in the circle for the Blue Devils, allowing just two hits over four scoreless innings, while striking out four.
Jameson Kavel drove in four runs to lead the offense, registering a three-run home run.
After a scoreless opening frame, the Blue Devils jumped on Eagles starter Peyton Schnackenberg quickly. After
Kristina Foreman opened with a double,
Caroline Jacobsen drove her home on the next at-bat with a deep blast to center field for a 2-0 advantage.
Kyla Morris immediately followed it up with a single and
Kamryn Jackson drove her home on an RBI triple. Kavel finished up the inning with an RBI sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 4-0.
The third inning saw another long ball for Duke, as
Ana Gold drove home
Leah Jarnac on an opposite field blast to right field for a 6-0 lead.
In the fourth, the Blue Devils chased Schnackenberg from the game, as
Deja Davis opened the frame with a single and stolen base. After
Kelsey Zampa drew a hit-by-pitch, Kavel cleared the bases with a home run to the left field flag poles for a 9-0 advantage. For some added insurance,
Rachel Crabtree hit a home run just by the center field batter's eye for a 10-0 lead.
St. George would give way to
Lillie Walker in the top of the fifth inning to close out the game. Walker induced three weak ground balls to secure another scoreless frame and wrap up the game after just five innings.
The Blue Devils will be back in action on Sunday at 12 p.m., hosting the series finale at Duke Softball Stadium. The game will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
