AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Duke women's golf tandem of sophomore
Phoebe Brinker and junior
Erica Shepherd saw their run at the Augusta National Women's Amateur (ANWA) come to an end on Friday as the Blue Devils failed to finish in the top 30 to advance to the final round at the Augusta National Golf Club.
Following delays due to inclement weather and suspension of the second round on Thursday evening,
play resumed on Friday at 7:30 a.m., with 21 groups left to complete the second round.
Brinker was in the top-20 heading into the last portion of her second round, but struggled on the way in to finish with an 80 and missed the cut with a 153. After making the cut in her first two appearances in 2019 and 2021, Shepherd turned in rounds of 79 and 77 to miss the cut. Neither of the Blue Devils could get putts to drop in the second round as conditions were very challenging. None of the 72 golfers in the field shot under par over the two days.
Through 36 holes, Beatrice Wallin and Latanna Stone were even-par, 144, to lead the field with 18 holes remaining.
All 72 golfers headed to the Augusta National Golf Club on Friday afternoon to play a practice round at the famed course, which will host the Masters next week.
Even though the Blue Devils won't have a chance to play in the final round on Saturday, the experience for both Brinker and Shepherd were invaluable.
Over the three years of action, Duke has produced 10 individuals that have competed with the other top amateur golfers in the country at the ANWA.
