DURHAM – Graduate student
Jameson Kavel has been tabbed as the ACC Co-Player of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.
Â
Kavel becomes the third Blue Devil in four weeks to receive the award, joining
Caroline Jacobsen (week one) and
Rachel Crabtree (week three). The Blue Devils have blown past the program record for most in a single season this year, with all three earning the award for the first time in their careers.
Â
A native of Duluth, Ga., Kavel made her return to the Atlanta area count, playing a key role in the ACC-opening weekend sweep of Georgia Tech. Kavel hit .556 with two home runs and three RBI, tying a career-high with a four-hit game in the opener against the Yellow Jackets. Kavel also reached several personal milestones on the weekend, hitting her 100th collegiate RBI and her 150th run scored.
Â
Kavel is off to a scorching start this season, hitting .400 with seven home runs, 20 RBI, seven doubles and a slugging percentage of .900. Entering this week, Kavel has been in the top-25 nationally in home runs, total bases, and slugging percentage, while playing strong defense at shortstop the entire season.
Â
Kavel and the Blue Devils are set to continue a busy home stretch this week, hosting No. 25 Charlotte on Wednesday at 6 p.m., before welcoming NC State for a three-game stretch from Mar. 11-13.
