DURHAM – No. 9 Duke women's tennis increased its win streak to five matches with a 7-0 sweep of Virginia Tech (5-8, 1-3 ACC) Sunday morning at Ambler Tennis Stadium.
"Winning a match in the ACC 7-0 is a great accomplishment," said head coach
Jamie Ashworth. "I'm happy we were able to do that."
Duke (8-1, 4-0 ACC) took the early 1-0 lead after securing the doubles point, sweeping all three matches that featured new doubles pairings on every court. The Blue Devils kicked off doubles action with a bang as senior
Margaryta Bilokin and graduate student
Eliza Omirou cruised in their matchup against Elizabet Danailova and Dariya Radulova en route to collecting a 6-1 win.
Matches on courts one and two were back-and-forth affairs but both battles went the way of the Blue Devils. Senior
Kelly Chen and freshman
Ellie Coleman faced a 5-4 deficit in flight one, but the pair showed their poise and won three straight games, clinching the match (7-5) and doubles point on Coleman's serve. Junior

Emma Jackson wrapped up their match against Erika Cheng and Rita Pinto in the second slot shortly after. Tied at 6-6, Beck and Jackson overpowered the Hokie duo in the tiebreaker for a 7-6 (2) victory.
The ninth-ranked Blue Devils kept their foot on the gas with the action flipping to singles play, sweeping all six matches with five of those wins coming via straight sets. No. 19
Georgia Drummy took the court for her first match of the morning and kickstarted Duke's singles performance, controlling her match from start to finish for a 6-1, 6-1 dub over Tamara Barad Itzhaki in flight one. One court over, the 11th-ranked Beck breezed past Danailova (6-2, 6-2) to push the Blue Devils' lead to 3-0.
"We challenged them before singles to be as emotional as they possibly could and what defines being a championship team – you know, backing up what we did on Friday night, " Ashworth added.
Coleman, Omirou and Chen were the next three to finish, adding on to Duke's point total. Coleman took down Andreini (6-3, 6-1) in flight five to clinch the match for the Blue Devils. Omirou powered past Charlotte Cartledge (6-2, 6-3) and Chen defeated Radulova 6-3, 6-1 on court three.
Jackson's match against Erika Cheng in the fourth slot was a tightly-contested matchup. After getting edged out in the first set, Jackson ushered a great response as the 53rd-ranked freshman took set two (6-1) setting up a super tiebreaker. Cheng took six of the first 10 games in the final set, but Jackson's confidence never wavered – she rattled off six straight to lock up the win and complete the morning sweep for the Blue Devils.
