PALM CITY, Fla. – On the strength of a final-round 65, freshman
Kelly Chinn surged to a fifth-place finish at the Valspar Collegiate, that wrapped up Tuesday at The Floridian in Palm City, Fla.
Chinn's 6-under 65 was the second low round of the day and helped boost the freshman from 10 spots into fifth place at 10-under 203. Sophomore
Ian Siebers book-ended rounds of 1-under 70 around a career-low 64 yesterday to place tied for sixth, one stroke back of Chinn.
Duke's 7-under team score on Tuesday allowed the Blue Devils to move into a fourth-place finish at 14-under in the 15-team event. Pepperdine was 34-under and went wire-to-wire to claim the title, followed by Florida State (-20), Wake Forest (-10), Duke and Arizona State (-13) round out the top five.
Chinn opened his final round on the eighth hole and rattled off six birdies over his first 12 holes on hism way to a career-low 65. Chinn posted rounds of 70, 68 and 65 for a career-best fifth-place finish at 10-under 203.
Siebers also finished strong, closing with consecutive birdies on his final two holes Tuesday to post his third consecutive round in red numbers at 1-under 70. The sophomore was tied for sixth at 9-under 204 (70-64-70).

Jimmy Zheng fired an even-par 71 on Tuesday and finished tied for 22nd at 2-under 211 (68-72-71). Freshman
John Peters was tied for 65th at 9-over 222 (77-72-73) that was capped by his two-over 73 on Tuesday, while senior
Quinn Riley closed with an even-par 71 to place tied for 68th at 10-over 223 (79-73-71).
The Blue Devils return to action April 8-9 at the Stitch Intercollegiate in Cary, N.C.
