DURHAM – Head coach
Dan Colella announced that
Mia Leko will join the Duke swimming & diving program for the 2022-23 season as a graduate transfer.
"We are thrilled to have Mia joining us for her fifth year," Colella said. "Mia will bring some great depth in the middle-distance freestyle, butterfly and individual medley. Mia has a tremendous work ethic and that along with her collegiate experience can be an asset in many ways, not just performances. We look forward to Mia's arrival."
Leko will move to Durham after concluding her undergraduate career at Dartmouth. While at Dartmouth, Leko reached the 'A' Finals of the Ivy League Championship in the 200 freestyle and 200 butterfly all three seasons (2019, 2020 and 2022). In addition, she was the Ivy League Champion in the 200 butterfly.
She graduates from Dartmouth having been awarded the Karl B. Michael Award (twice), the Outstanding Freshman Award and the Greer Award. She holds five individual times that rank in the top-10 in program history, including the Dartmouth records in the 200 freestyle and 200 butterfly. She also is a member of three Dartmouth relay records – 400 freestyle relay, 800 freestyle relay and 400 medley relay.
In December, Leko put together a strong showing at the US Open. Leko reached the consolation final in the 100-meter butterfly (11th – 1:01.70) and 200-meter butterfly (14th – 2:17.48).
Leko will graduate from Dartmouth in May with a degree in government. She will enroll in the Fuqua School of Business MMS program.
