St. George Named ACC Pitcher of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Duke softball graduate student Peyton St. George has been named the ACC's Pitcher of the Week, as the league announced on Tuesday.
St. George turned in one of the biggest weeks of her collegiate career, going 3-0 with a 0.82 ERA over three wins against then No. 25 Charlotte and NC State (twice). St. George struck out 36 batters over 17 innings, allowing just five hits and two runs, holding opposing hitters to a .089 batting average.
The Mechanicsville, Va., native set a program record in her first of two games against the Wolfpack, striking out a career-high 15 batters, breaking Brianna Butler's single game record of 14 set just over two years ago. St. George also struck out nine batters in the win over Charlotte and 12 in her next win over NC State.
St. George has now recorded four-straight complete games, striking out nine, nine, 15 and 12 batters, respectively over a 4-0 stretch. The 27 strikeouts over her last two games are a career-high, and her 91 strikeouts on the year have moved her into the top-25 nationally in total strikeouts.
With the honor, the Blue Devils have now had at least one ACC weekly honoree in four of the first five weeks of the season. St. George also picks up her fourth ACC Pitcher of the Week award, after winning three times last season.
The Blue Devils and St. George will be back in action this weekend, hosting No. 17 Clemson for a three-game series from Mar. 18-20. The series will open against the Tigers on Friday at 6 p.m.
