Gorman Highlights NCAA Regional Performances

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Duke fencing team concluded the 2022 NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional Saturday as six Blue Devils notched top-10 performances, highlighted by senior Alex Gorman's third-place finish in women's saber.

Saturday featured 10 Blue Devils who advanced to the final round of pool competition. The finalists for Duke were Gorman, Danny Campbell III (epee), Christina Ferrari (foil), Catherine Flanagan (foil), Finn Hossfeld (foil), Allen Marakov (epee), Ava Navarro (epee), Terence Lee (saber) and Anneke Zegers (saber).

Gorman paced the Blue Devils with 16 victories in women's saber, followed by Ferrari with 15 to finish fourth (women's foil) and Lee with 10 to place seventh (men's saber).

Other top performances this afternoon included Finn Hossfeld (11th, foil), Stephen Kim (12th - saber), Allen Marakov (11th, epee) and Ava Navarro (12th - epee).

The Blue Devils will finish the 2022 season at the NCAA Fencing Championship March 24-27 at Notre Dame. Qualifiers for the national meet will be announced next week.

A fencer's performance at regionals will have a direct impact on their chance at qualifying for the NCAA Championship, as both the regular season resumé and placing at the regional meet will be considered when the field is selected next week.
