GREENSBORO, N.C. – Duke softball graduate student
Rachel Crabtree has been named the ACC Player of the Week, as the league announced on Tuesday.
Crabtree joins
Caroline Jacobsen as Blue Devil winners this season and becomes the fifth Blue Devil in program history to win an ACC weekly award. Jacobsen took home the first honors of the season following week one.
A native of Huntington Beach, Calif., Crabtree was on base for much of the week, hitting .615 (8-for-13) with two home runs, five RBI, a double, two walks and seven runs scored. Crabtree also played sparkling defense, registering a perfect fielding percentage while playing a key role in the 13th-ranked Blue Devils going 5-1 on the week with a win over No. 19 Michigan.
Crabtree is off to a quick start in the 2022 campaign, hitting .350 with four home runs and 11 RBI. Known as a strong contact hitter during her Duke tenure, Crabtree is seeing a power surge this season. She has already set a career high in home runs and is nearly .200 above her career high in slugging percentage, slugging .700.
The Blue Devils will open ACC play this weekend, traveling to Atlanta, Ga., for three games against Georgia Tech. The series opener is on Friday at 5 p.m., with games on Saturday (3 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m.) to follow.
