GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 14 Duke softball program (8-2, 0-0 ACC) concluded the T-Mobile Tournament in strong fashion, defeating Florida A&M (1-7, 0-0 SWAC) 7-1 on Sunday afternoon at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium.
Duke jumped out on the Rattlers from the first at bat of the game, as
Ana Gold took a 2-2 pitch into left center field for her third home run of the season to make it 1-0. That started a string of three consecutive innings with a long ball for the Blue Devils, who got another blast from
Claire Davidson in the second for two additional runs to make it 3-0.
In the third inning,
Jameson Kavel opened the frame with her third double of the weekend.
Kristina Foreman was able to drive her in on an RBI single up the middle for a 4-0 lead. Later that inning,
Taylor Krapf drove home Foreman with a long ball down the left field line to take a 6-0 advantage.
The Rattlers got one back in the bottom of third, but the Blue Devils responded with an RBI single from
Francesca Frelick in the fifth inning for a 7-1 lead.
Davidson also got the start in the circle, throwing three innings, allowing one earned run and striking out five, while
Jala Wright struck out four more batters over two shutout innings to finish the game.
The game was ultimately called after the conclusion of the fifth inning, due to travel constraints.
The Blue Devils will return home for the first of six straight home games, beginning with a game against Elon on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ACCNX.
