PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. – The first round is complete at the Watersound Invitational in Panama City Beach, Fla., and the Duke men's golf team sits in 12th place at the Shark's Tooth Golf Course.
Senior
Quinn Riley and sophomore
Ian Siebers each carded an opening-round 2-over 74 to lead the Blue Devils, who are getting their first look at the course that will host the ACC Championship in late April.
Duke shot 10-over 298 as a team on Sunday and sits in 12th place on a tightly-packed leaderboard with the top 13 teams separated by just 16 strokes. Georgia Tech shot 3-under to lead after the first round, followed by Virginia Tech and North Carolina (-2), NC State (-1) and Virginia (+3) in the top five.
The 14- team field includes the 12 ACC men's golf programs, plus Arkansas and Alabama.
Siebers and Riley each sit tied for 30th at 2-over, while sophomore
Jimmy Zheng and freshman
Luke Sample are each a shot back at 3-over 75 and tied for 43rd. Freshman
Kelly Chinn shot a 6-over 78 and is tied for 58th.
Monday's second round is underway at 9 a.m. and Duke is paired with Georgia Tech and Boston College.
