DURHAM – Fresh off a win over No. 5 Oklahoma State to headline a 4-1 weekend, the Duke softball program has risen several spots in each of the four major national rankings.
Â
Headlining the list is a move up six spots in Softball America's rankings to No. 9 in the nation. The ranking is the first top-10 mark in any poll in program history, and the highest program ranking of all-time.
Â
In the most used USA Today/NFCA rankings, the Blue Devils also moved up six slots to No. 14 in the country. The Blue Devils and 12th-ranked Oregon were the largest risers in the poll.
Â
The Blue Devils were buoyed by the win over the then No. 5 Oklahoma State, while showcasing a prolific display of offense and pitching. Duke averaged 8.4 runs per game, scoring a high of 15 on California Baptist, while hitting .366 with 12 home runs and 41 RBI as a team in five games. Senior
Caroline Jacobsen helped lead the way and was awarded ACC Player of the Week accolades on Tuesday.
Â
In the circle, the Blue Devils pitched to a 2.41 ERA (32.0 IP), limiting opponents to 3.0 runs per game. Led by a complete game shutout from
Peyton St. George over the Cowgirls, the Blue Devils struck out 34 batters over the weekend, holding opponents to a .228 batting average.
Â
Duke will continue its season at the T-Mobile Tournament, hosted by the University of Florida from Feb. 18-20 in Gainesville, Fla. The Blue Devils will meet the No. 4 Gators, Villanova, Louisville, and Florida A&M (twice).
