DURHAM - The Blue Devils men's soccer team lost to Creighton, 3-2, in the NCAA Quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon, ending their season at 13-2-4 overall.
Axel Gudbjornsson scored Duke's first-half goal, and the Blue Devils took advantage of an own goal to draw within one in the second half.
HOW IT HAPPENED

- Axel Gudbjornsson leveled the score at one goal apiece less than 15 minutes later, sending a bouncing ball in the box into the back of the net for the freshman's fourth goal of the season.
- Creighton put its second goal on the scoreboard after a VAR decision in the 43rd minute ruled the ball crossed the goal line before being saved by Eliot Hamill.
- The Blue Jays scored their third of the first half with less than a minute remaining before halftime on a shot from several yards outside the 18-yard box.
- Duke increased its offensive pressure following the break, taking 13 shots compared to just three by Creighton.
- The Blue Devils drew within one goal in the 75th minute, after a Ruben Mesalles service into the box was deflected into the net by a Creighton defender.
- Duke managed to attempt five shots in the final 10 minutes of the game, but were unable to equalize and force extra time.

QUOTES
- "Congratulations to Creighton. Good team. Really strong going forward and they showed their quality in the first half, scoring three goals. Momentum changed quite dramatically with that second goal and obviously gave them a little bit of a cushion with that third goal right before halftime. I thought our guys dug in, second half we dominated. Normal procedure that when you're down two goals, that we're going to put a lot of men forward and try to get one goal back at a time. And they were going to sit in and make it very difficult for us and get men behind the ball. And we just couldn't get that elusive third goal to take it to overtime. It's a tough pill to swallow." - Duke head coach John Kerr.
