STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - The Duke fencing team kicked off day one at the Garret Penn State Open Saturday as the 10 Blue Devil women posted top-10 performances in State College, Pa.
Notables
- Senior saberist Zsofia Walter headlined the women's contingent with a tied-for-third place finish with 12 victories in pool play.
- Sophomore Rachel Kowalsky posted a fifth-place finish in women's epee to lead the epee squad and earn the second-best finish on the entire women's squad.
- Sophomore Catherine Flanagan placed sixth in women's foil to lead the foilists.
- Other top performances included Chloe Beittel (6th, epee), Kungling Tong (6th, saber), Anneke Zegers (7th, saber), Hava Stone (8th, saber), Christina Ferrari (9th, foil) and Vivi Buchmann (9th, saber).
- Five of the six women's saberists placed in the top 10.
- Five freshmen made their Duke debuts Saturday in the White Building.
