DURHAM – No. 3 Duke plays its regular season finale on Friday night, traveling to take on Virginia Tech. The undefeated Blue Devils (10-0-4, 4-0-3) match up against the Hokies (2-12-1, 0-7-0) at Thompson Field on the final match day of the ACC regular season. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. on ACC Network, with Steve Schlanger and Michael Lahound on the call.
The NCAA Division I men's soccer committee will reveal the midseason top 16 on men's soccer rankings at halftime of Duke's match, live on ACC Network. The top 16 gives fans a look at which teams are in the running for a top seed when the tournament field is selected on 1 a p.m. ET on Nov. 14Â on NCAA.com.
SERIES HISTORY
- Friday's match is the 24th overall meeting between the Duke and Virginia Tech.
- Duke defeated Virginia Tech last September, a 1-0 result against the Hokies in Durham.
- The Blue Devils have won four of the last five overall meetings in the series and have secured a full three points in four of the last five matches played in Blacksburg.
THE SCOUTING REPORT
- Virginia Tech dropped an ACC contest 1-0 against Notre Dame in its last time out.
- The Hokies are 2-12-1 overall and have an ACC record of 0-7-0.
- Danny Flores leads Virginia Tech with 10 points, courtesy of a team-high four goals and two assists but has not appeared in a contest since early October. Conor Pugh has started 10 matches for the Hokies and has the second-most goals on the team with three.
SEEKING HISTORY
- With a win or draw against Virginia Tech, Duke would become the first ACC team to finish the regular season undefeated in conference play in five years.
- There have been five ACC teams to do so since 2002, with the last time coming in 2017 (Wake Forest).
ELIOT HAMILL REMAINS TOP OF THE CHARTS
- Stacked up against fellow goalkeepers, the Blue Devils' keeper has been one of the best in the country so far in 2022.
- Hamill, a Scarsdale, N.Y. native, leads the country in save percentage (.898), and is also tied for first nationally in both most shutouts (10) and goals against average (.357).
- His ten shutouts, including five in a row, moves Hamill into a tie for fourth-place all-time in program history for shutouts in a season.
- The graduate student has played all 1,260 available minutes and has lowered his career goals against average to 0.92.
SHAK ATTACK
- The reigning ACC Freshman of the Year and a third team All-South Region honoree, Shakur Mohammed has earned the national spotlight during his sophomore season.
- After debuting at No. 60 on TopDrawerSoccer's preseason National Top 100, the sophomore moved to No. 11 on their Midseason National Top 100.
- The Kumasi, Ghana native has earned multiple ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors this season, along with a National Player of the Week recognition from College Soccer News.
- He's top-25 nationally for game-winning goals (5), total goals (9), goals per game (.64) and total points (20).
- The forward was named to All-ACC Second Team, ACC All-Freshman Team and to the ACC's All-Tournament Team following his 2021 campaign.
3 IN THE TOP 100
- TopDrawerSoccer released its midseason Top 100 on October 19, with Duke midfielder Peter Stroud headlining the list at No. 1 overall.
- Forward Shakur Mohammed moved from 60th in the preseason Top 100 to 11th in TDS' midseason iteration.
- Nick Pariano was tabbed at 57th overall.
