How it Happened
- The Blue Devils grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the third minute as Issy Carey capitalized on the first penalty corner of the afternoon. Miller pushed the ball in from the endline and Mary Harkins made the stop for Carey, who fired it into the left side of the cage for her eighth goal of the season.
- Miller left her mark on the game again eight minutes later, tapping in the redirect from Alayna Burns for the 2-0 advantage. Freshman Macy Szukics' sweep off Miller's insert was blocked by Longwood. The ensuing rebound bounced to Burns who pushed it across the mouth of the goal to Miller waiting on the far post to touch it across the line.
- Duke capped first-half scoring in the 21st minute on another penalty corner opportunity. Junior Charlie van Oirschot perfectly redirected Kelsey Reznick's sweep high into the cage. Miller was credited with the second assist on the insert.
- The Blue Devils picked up where they left off, getting on the board for a fourth time just 42 seconds into the second half. Van Oirschot pushed a pass to Miller who dribbled into the circle and rifled a shot past Longwood goaltender Lara Van Nunen for the 4-0 lead.
- Carey added her second goal of the game with six seconds left in the third period, fighting her way through a Lancer defender to find the back of the cage for the ninth time this season. Sophomore Josephine Palde had the assist with the circle entry.
- Palde once again played the part of creator as she dribbled to the endline and sent a pass to Szukics crashing the cage for her second goal of the season and a 6-0 Duke lead.
- Longwood got on the board in the 57th minute as Maroussia Walckiers beat Duke goalie Charlotte Johnson to spoil the shutout effort.
- Duke outshot Longwood 14-5 for the game and won the penalty corner battle, 6-1. Piper Hampsch earned the start in goal, while Grace Brightbill came on for 11 minutes in the fourth quarter. Brightbill made the lone save of the game for the Blue Devils.
