Johnson Named PNC Achievers Student-Athlete of the Week

DURHAM – Duke sophomore defensive backBrandon Johnsonhas been named Duke's PNC Achievers Student-Athlete of the Week, following his career-high nine tackle performance in the Blue Devils' 45-21 victory over the Miami Hurricanes.

In addition, Johnson added 2.0 sacks, 2.0 tackles for loss, one fumble recovery and one interception for a touchdown. The Newton, N.C., native recovered a fumble in the second quarter, which Duke converted into seven points three plays later to extend its lead to 17-7. In the final five minutes of play, Johnson also intercepted quarterback Jake Garcia and returned 28 yards for a touchdown.

The defensive back tallied two of Duke's season-best six sacks against a Miami offense that came into the game tied for fourth in the ACC having allowed just 12 on the year through six games. Johnson was named the Walter Camp National FBS Player of the Week as well, becoming the first Duke player named to the honor since 2015 (Jeremy Cash).

The Blue Devils have an open week before traveling to Chestnut Hill, Mass.m for a Friday night meeting with Boston College on Nov. 4. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. from Alumni Stadium and will be broadcasted live on ESPN2.
 PNC Achievers is a student honors platform that is active at nearly 20 schools and universities across PNC Bank's service area. Honorees are selected locally by designated panels at each respective school, using a set of criteria that includes athletic accomplishments, academic achievement, community service and student leadership.
