DURHAM – The second-ranked Duke men's soccer team closed out an undefeated home regular season slate on Friday night, playing to a scoreless draw against Pittsburgh on Senior Night.
Eliot Hamill logged his fifth consecutive, and 10th total, shutout in 2022 to help extend Duke's unbeaten streak to 14 games.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The tone of the game was set early on, with four fouls called on Pittsburgh within in the first 10 minutes.
- The Blue Devils put their first shot on goal in the 12th minute when Ruben Mesalles forced a save by the opposing goalkeeper.
- Eliot Hamill logged his first save of the contest in the 24th minute and made another in the 31st.
- The intensity picked up in the second half, with sixteen total fouls called and six yellow cards shown in the second 45 minutes of play.

- Eliot Hamill is now tied for fourth-place in program history for most shutouts in a season with 10. It's the first time a Blue Devils goalkeeper has reached double digits in one season since Ali Knutsson in 1998.
- The Blue Devils are one of five remaining undefeated Division I teams.
QUOTES
- "I thought we played really well. Both halves we had a lot of momentum, and we created a lot of opportunities. We just didn't get that last touch in crucial times. And maybe our service into the final third was haphazard at times, and then we had some really good opportunities to cross the ball and we just couldn't find our guy. We got closer in the second half, and we were much more lively in the final third but just unlucky that we couldn't get on the end of a couple of those crosses." – head coach John Kerr on Duke's overall effort Friday night.
- "It's definitely a team performance. We're focused on defending. The four amazing defenders in front of me, the whole team defends, we defend as a unit, and we prioritize it. It's been our focus and we've done well at achieving that goal. We're very happy with it and looking to keep it going in the next couple of games." – Eliot Hamill on his current streak of five consecutive shutouts.
UP NEXT
- Duke will close out the regular season next Friday, Oct. 28, on the road against Virginia Tech. Kickoff in Blacksburg is scheduled for 6 p.m., with the game set to be broadcast on ACC Network.
