How It Happened
•   Duke closed the second round on Tuesday morning by finishing with a 6-under, 282, which was a season-low score for the Blue Devils. With a 6-under, 570, overall through 36 holes, Duke was third overall behind Wake Forest (558) and Stanford (569). Â
•   In the final round, Shepherd had her putter working early as she drained an eight-foot putt for birdie on No. 1, a 22-footer for birdie on No. 2 and then 2-putted for birdie on No. 3 to move to 3-under-par. She would par the next 10 holes and move to 4-under with another two-putt birdie on a par-5 (No. 14). After her lone bogey on No. 15, she parred the final three holes to finish with a 69. Shepherd hit 15 greens, 12 fairways and rolled 33 putts. Â
•   Junior
Anne Chen turned in a tied for 12th placement with rounds of 75, 70 and 69 for a 2-under, 214. She got things going on No. 2 as she hit her 9-iron from 121 yards to 13 feet for birdie and then 2-putted for birdie on No. 3 to get to 2-under. Chen parred the next four holes and then went 2-over-par in a span of five holes. She closed strong with an 8-footer for birdie on No. 14, 10-foot birdie on No. 15 and 7-footer for birdie on No. 16 to get to 3-under. Chen rolled 29 putts on the day. Â
•   With a 1-under, 215, freshman
Andie Smith closed the stroke play portion with a career-best tied for 14th finish in her home state of Florida. After 13 holes on Tuesday, Smith was 4-over, but reached the par-5 14th and 15th greens in two and 2-putted for birdie. After a bogey and par on the next two holes, she drained a 40-footer for birdie on No. 18 to close with a 74. Â
•   Junior
Phoebe Brinker registered her second top-20 finish of the season with rounds of 70, 76 and 71 for a 217. Â
•   After totaling rounds of 72 and 74, sophomore
Rylie Heflin had a 78 on Tuesday to finish in 27th with a 224. She had birdies on No. 3 and No. 16 on the day.
