DURHAM – Duke men's soccer sophomore Thorleifur Ulfarsson has signed a Generation adidas contract and will forgo the remainder of his college eligibility to enter the 2022 Major League Soccer SuperDraft, the league announced Thursday.

A native of Kopavogur, Iceland, Ulfarsson concludes his Duke career with 19 goals and two assists, for 40 points in 24 games. The striker recorded two hat tricks during his career against Virginia and Howard, and leaves after finishing with 15 goals in 2021, which is good for eighth on Duke's single-season chart.

This past season, Ulfarsson was named a First Team All-American by the United Soccer Coaches, a MAC Hermann Trophy Semifinalist and a First Team All-ACC honoree, while winning ACC Offensive Player of the Year accolades. Ulfarsson became the program's first, first team All-American since Andrew Wenger was honored in 2011 and the 18th recipient all-time in school history.

In addition, Ulfarsson was just the fourth player in Duke lore to lead the ACC in both goals and total points in the same season, and the fifth player to score multiple goals in an ACC Tournament game, after earning two against Wake Forest on Nov. 7.

Ulfarsson joins Wenger and becomes just the second Generation adidas signee in program history, since the first class in 1997 – then called Project-40. He also becomes the first Icelandic national to sign a Generation adidas contract.

The 2022 MLS SuperDraft is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 11 at 3 p.m.
