TUCSON, Ariz. – Paced by sophomore
Ian Siebers, the Duke men's golf team opened play at the Arizona Intercollegiate on Monday at the Tucson Country Club in Tucson, Ariz.
Siebers carded an opening round 4-under 68 and was 3-under through 12 holes in the second round before play was halted by darkness. At 7-under, Siebers is two off the lead in a tie for third.
As a team, the Blue Devils were at 4-under was play was halted and in a tie for seventh place in the 14-team field. The host Arizona Wildcats lead the tournament at 25-under.
Siebers rattled off six birdies over his first 13 holes on Monday to get to 6-under, before posting a 4-under 68 in the opening round. The sophomore was 3-under the second round, with birdies on three of the first five holes and four of his first 12 before play was suspended.
Freshman teammates
Luke Sample and
Kelly Chinn are each even par for the tournament, Sample through 13 holes in the second round and Chinn through 11. Sample and Chinn each posted rounds of 1-over 73 in Monday's opening round.
Sophomore
Jimmy Zheng is 5-over for the tournament through 13 holes in the second round, while graduate student
Qi wen Wong is 9-over.
Santa Clara's Jack Avrit tops the individual leaderboard at 9-under par, while Arizona leads the team standings at 25-under, followed by New Mexico (-14), Arkansas (-12), BYU (-7) and Iowa State (-6) in the top five.
The tournament will resume with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. MT on Tuesday to conclude the second round and play the final round. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
