DURHAM – Following the 2022 season opener, the Duke fencing team returns to the state of Pennsylvania Saturday for the Philadelphia Invitational, which is hosted by Penn.
The Blue Devils will kick off action at 8:30 a.m. and the event will run through 3:30 p.m. Duke is slated to face Cornell, Johns Hopkins, Lafayette, NJIT, NYU and Penn.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the shortened 2021 season, the Blue Devils haven't competed at the Philadelphia Invitational in two years. In 2020, the Blue Devils went 7-3 overall.
Duke looks to continue its momentum from last weekend at the Penn State Duals that saw the men's program post a 3-1 showing. Junior saberist
Terence Lee led the men's squad with seven victories while foilist
Christina Ferrari and saberist
Anneke Zegers recorded 10 wins each to lead all Blue Devils while saberist
Alex Gorman added nine.
Ferrari was named ACC Fencer of the Week for her efforts last weekend.
Following this weekend, the Blue Devils will travel to Cambridge, Mass., for the Eric Sollee Invitational, hosted by MIT.
