DURHAM – The Duke softball program has earned three selections to Extra Innings Softball's first ever Extra Elite 100 College Player Rankings, as the publication announced this week.
The Blue Devils were one of six programs with at least three of the top-50 players, joining Florida, Michigan, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and UCLA. The Blue Devils are slated to face off against three of those programs in 2022.
The first All-American in program history, Davis returns for her senior year after a strong 2021 campaign in which she hit .389 with 23 extra-base hits and 28 RBI, while stealing 14 bases. The Cerritos, Calif., native led the team in batting average (.389), hits (65), slugging percentage (.653), triples (7) and total bases (109) and was a top-25 finalist for the National Player of the Year.
St. George and Walters return to anchor the pitching staff after both being named All-ACC First Team, with Walters named NFCA All-Region Second Team and St. George NFCA All-Region Third Team. St. George went 18-8 with a 2.21 ERA over 36 games, becoming the ACC Tournament's Most Valuable Player. Walters recorded a sterling record of 19-3 with a 1.38 ERA over 31 games.
The Blue Devils will open the season with two games against California Baptist and Oklahoma State on Feb. 11 at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., as part of the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz.
