DURHAM, N.C. – With less than a week before the 2021-22 season opens for the Duke women's golf team, senior
Gina Kim and junior
Erica Shepherd both earned All-America accolades as Golfweek released its preseason honors and team rankings on Wednesday. Â
Kim was tabbed to the first team, while Shepherd earned third team recognition. Â
Coming off a stellar junior campaign in which she was tabbed WGCA First Team All-America, Kim enters her final season with the Blue Devils. She had quite the summer helping lead the U.S. to a Curtis Cup victory, winning the Pinehurst North & South Women's Amateur, was a part of the victorious U.S. squad at the Arnold Palmer Cup and earned medalist accolades at Stage I of LPGA Qualifying School. A product of Durham, N.C., Kim closed her junior season with a fifth-place ledger at the NCAA Championship and was the ACC Individual Champion. Â
Shepherd collected both WGCA and Golfweek Second Team All-America honors a year ago and was an ANNIKA Award Watch List selection. She posted an impressive victory at the Gamecock Intercollegiate with a 7-under-par, 209, and finished the year with three top-10 finishes. Shepherd, who is from Greenwood, Ind., closed the season ranked No. 12 nationally. Â
In the Golfweek preseason ledger, Duke was tabbed No. 4 behind Stanford, Wake Forest and Ole Miss. Florida State, LSU, Oklahoma State, Auburn, UCLA and Arizona closed out the top 10. Â
The Blue Devils were also ranked No. 2 in the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) preseason rankings and No. 4 by Golf Channel.
Duke will open the 2021 fall campaign Sept. 13-15 at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate, which will be played at the Royal Golf Club in Lake Elmo, Minn.
