GREENSBORO, N.C. – Duke senior goalkeeper
Eliot Hamill has been tabbed as the ACC Defensive Player of the Week, as the league announced on Tuesday.
Hamill becomes the first Blue Devil to win a ACC Defensive Player of the Week award since
Will Pulisic was selected on October 23, 2017.
The award comes on the heels of a 1-0 shutout of Michigan by Hamill on Thursday in Ann Arbor. The captain recorded his second clean sheet of the season and fourth of his collegiate career, making two key saves and holding the Wolverines' offense in check.
Hamill also followed up his performance with a career-high eight saves in a double-overtime loss against Seattle on Monday. The senior has been stellar for the Blue Devils all season, with his efforts contributing to the Blue Devils returning to the United Soccer Coaches top-25 rankings.
The Scarsdale, N.Y., native's shutout at Michigan was his third in the last four games dating back to the 2020-21 campaign. He started the season with a scoreless streak of 285:31 minutes, for the longest such stretch of his career.
Hamill and the Blue Devils will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 11, when they take on Virginia Tech at 7 p.m., to open ACC play.
