DURHAM, N.C. – Duke senior running back Mataeo Durant has been selected as Duke's PNC Achiever's Student-Athlete of the Week after setting the single-game record of 255 rushing yards and scoring 3 touchdowns for the Blue Devils during his first collegiate start.
Durant's touchdown runs covered 5, 59, and 53 yards respectively. He had two fourth quarter touchdowns resulting from both the 50-plus yard runs and broke the program record for rushing yards in a single quarter with 130 total rushing yards in the fourth. He became just the sixth player in program history to record two rushing touchdowns of 50-plus yards in a single game.
Durant totaled 29 carries and averaged 8.79 yards per attempt, marking the 10th-highest single-game average in Duke history. The Plum Branch, S.C., native's 255 yards topped Shaun Wilson's previous record of 245 yards against Kansas in 2014. Durant closed out his night with 37 receiving yards on two catches. His rushing yardage earned him ranks the 25th highest in ACC history.
In his record-breaking performance Durant had an all-purpose yardage total at 292 yards making the fifth-highest single-game total in Duke's history.
Duke is back in action Friday, Sept. 10 when it welcomes North Carolina A&T for its home opener. Opening kick is set for 8 p.m. at Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium and will be carried on the ACC Network.
PNC Achievers is a student honors platform that is active at nearly 20 schools and universities across PNC Bank's service area. Honorees are selected locally by designated panels at each respective school, using a set of criteria that includes athletic accomplishments, academic achievement, community service and student leadership.
