BOSTON, Mass. – Duke men's and women's cross country turned in several top results, en route to third-place finishes at the Coast to Coast Battle in Beantown in Franklin Park Friday afternoon.

The Blue Devil women opened the day with a third-place finish of 115 points, behind team champion No. 13 North Carolina (65 points) and No. 26 Providence (82 points). The women's squad beat several teams with more votes in the latest USTFCCCA rankings than them, including No. 22 Connecticut, Syracuse, and Boston College.

On the men's side, Duke nabbed a third-place finish with 80 points, behind the winner No. 6 Arkansas (39 points) and Syracuse (60 points).

The women's side was led by two top-10 performances, as sophomore
Charlotte Tomkinson finished fifth with a time of 17:14.1 on the 5K course, while graduate student
Michaela Reinhart was right behind her in seventh at 17:17.4. The Blue Devils were one of two teams with two runners in the top-10, joining the Tar Heels. Tomkinson led all Blue Devils and set a 5K personal best by just under 20 seconds.

Rounding out the top five for the Blue Devils were seniors
Clara Savchik (23rd, 17:37.2),
Elizabeth Reneau (25th, 17:39.8) and
Caroline Howley (57th, 18:19.3). Savchik and Reneau clocked in with personal bests, with Savchik improving by 14.4 seconds and Reneau by 58 seconds.

The men had several runners in the mix the entire race, with graduate student
CJ Ambrosio finishing 11th with a time of 24:20.7 on the 8K course. The Avon, Ohio native held the lead after 5K and shined in his season debut, giving him top-25 finishes in his past six cross country races.

The Blue Devils had four runners in the top 20, with junior
Zach Kinne taking 13th at 15:36.1, junior
Sam Rivera finishing 15th at 24:38.7 and senior
Chris Theodore checking in at 17th with a time of 24:40.8. Graduate student
Josh Romine rounded out the five scorers in 24th with a time of 24:54.4.

The Blue Devils will turn their attention to the Pre-Nationals Invitational, hosted by Florida State in Tallahassee, Fla., Oct. 15, and the VertCross, hosted by High Point in High Point, N.C., Oct. 15. Both meets will be the final preparation for the ACC Championships Oct. 29.
